The picturesque town of Cambourne in Cornwall has just become home to a brand new restaurant owned by local entrepreneur and nightclub operator, Timothy Vigus. Fusion, as the name would imply, specialises in a melange of eastern cuisine, drawing it's influences from Japanese, Thai and Chinese flavours. Vigus was very specific in his desire for a high quality audio system for his new venture, along with sophisticated lighting to match, so he turned to Truro-based systems integration specialists, Scrimgeour AV Ltd. Proprietor Graeme Scrimgeour had no hesitation in specifying EAW Commercial.
"Coming from a nightclub background where he is used to working with professional audio and lighting systems, there was no question of Tim settling for second-best for his new restaurant," explained Scrimgeour. "In fact, he originally asked for another loudspeaker brand, but I persuaded him to look at the new EAW Commercial line, and he is absolutely delighted with the results." Scrimgeour AV installed a total of fifteen EAWC CIS400 ceiling monitors throughout the venue, which has been split into four separate audio zones, each with individual level control. The audio system was zoned to compensate for the varying levels, and in particular, ceiling heights of each area. In this way the staff can ensure that the music is audible to diners in high-ceilinged areas yet those under low ceilings aren't deafened. System control is courtesy of a pair of Cloud 4-zone mixer amps and a dbx graphic EQ with a Marantz multi-change CD player acting as the main music source.
"I'm genuinely impressed with the CIS400s," enthused Scrimgeour. "They look and sound fantastic, and are extremely easy to install and set up." The EAWC CIS400 uses the same technology as Mackie's industry-standard HR Active Monitors to deliver performance that is more comparable to a studio monitor than a typical ceiling speaker. Scrimgeour agrees. "The audio quality of these speakers is excellent. They have an extremely flat frequency response which required virtually no tweaking when we set them up, despite the fact that we were working in an extremely harsh environment with hard floors and lots of glass and stainless steel, all of which can be audio nightmares. However, the CIS400s handled the environment perfectly with very little adjustment. I also like the fact that they have a built-in switchable hi-pass filter, so there's no danger of overloading the transformer. And finally, they look the part, either with or without the grille. The client was extremely impressed when he saw them for the first time. His comment was, 'If they sound as good as they look, then we're in business!' Fortunately, they do, so we are!"
Scrimgeour AV also designed and installed Abstract AVR colour-changing wash lights to enhance the ambience as well as all the electrical and data systems for a total integrated AV solution.
